Cologne is the largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia, it's also one of the busiest rail centres in Europe. Heavy rail, passenger and freight, one of the largest LRT systems in Germany -shared with freight at several points- and classic street trams. The Hohenzollernbr?cke is in the centre of it all, six tracks in constant use. To the south is the S?dbr?cke where freight trains pass every few minutes on their way to or from Gremberg yard. As a tourist you need to get to know the S-Bahn and we make the run to Bochum for a visit to the Eisenbahnmuseum at Dahlhausen. Other visits made in the city include the chocolate museum- no dull lines of display cases this is very much a working museum!, 4711, Br?hl, the tram museum and the city zoo! Each visit gives us the chance to try out the impressive public transport system. For our long day out we take the train to Koblenz, a fine city and one of the best for watching the ceaseless activity of the two Rhine railroads. We take the Sesselbahn to the castle to get the best view of the railways in town! It's back to Cologne by KD Line steamer, great views of both rail banks, but we stop off at K?nigswinter to ride the Drachenfelsbahn for yet more stunning views. All this plus the run from Waterloo makes Out & About Cologne a must for rail based visitors to the city. Narrated RT 75 mins
