TTR145 Out & About Locarno.Welcome to Switzerland with Ticket to Ride.. We travel south to Bellinzona, Locarno, Domodossola and Lake Maggiore. Bellinzona- a UNESCO city famous for its three castles- is on the main railway line between Germany and Italy- the Gotthard. Locarno is an attractive Italian style lakeside city, that together with the suburb of Ascona on the other side of the river Maggia, is where we are based for our tour of the Lake. This involves the Lake Maggiore Express, a metre gauge railway that runs to Domodossola in Italy, and boat trip from Stresa back to Locarno. In Locarno we travel the funicular and cable car to Cardada for fabulous views over the lake, and the route of the Centovalli Railway operated by Ferrovie Autolinee Regionali Ticinesi, and the Italian company Società Subalpina di Imprese Ferroviarie that will take us to the Italian city of Domodossola. This is a beautiful journey through delightful villages such as Intragna and Re and the nearby shrine. The next leg of the journey is by an ordinary service train operated by FS. If you are lucky it will be a EuroCity Pendolino, but it’s just as likely to be a Regional train to Milan! Finally we return to Locarno over the lovely waters of Lake Maggiore with the Navigazione Lago Maggiore- the steamship company of Lake Maggiore. Narrated and filmed in High Definition. RT 60mins.
