Welcome to the 10th edition of our magazine for European rail enthusiasts. We visit Austria to see how the railways are coping with winter and have a look at the new arrangements for EC trains to Poland and the Czech Republic resulting from the closure of Wien S?dbahnhof for rebuilding. Part two is a short medley! We visit two narrow gauge railways in France: at Chamonix the Chemin de fer du Montenvers -normally known simply as the Mer de Glace- a branch line from the ?international? narrow gauge cross border railway to Martigny on the Simplon in Switzerland and then the Chemin de fer de La Mure- a delightful electric railway south of Grenoble. We head north for our next chapter and visit a small railway on the Rhine near Colmar - the Chemin de fer touristique du Rhin ? a standard gauge railway operated by the same company that runs the Rhine side docks at Breisach. Our fourth instalment takes us deeper into France to the city of Montlu?on on France?s main cross country route Lyon to Bordeaux. It?s June 2009 and a special steam day. Our final section comes from Hungary. Budapest has a fascinating tram network and a standard gauge mainline system that sees more international trains starting or terminating than Vienna or Cologne! 65 mins Narrated. Filmed in HD.
