TTR75 OBB EC Cabride+ part 4 Salzburg to Innsbruck.Welcome back to Austria. It's a brand new day! The sun is shining and we are underway from Salzburg Hbf. It's 0853 and our train is ÖBB EC 562 from the Westbahnhof to Bregenz. The exit from Salzburg includes views of the work in progress on the third track. This will give extra capacity over the river and past the container terminal and the freight lines to rail customers west of the city. Then suddenly we are Germany. The Bishop of Rosenheim extracted a high price from the ÖBB for the 2km sliver of land which allows it to run trains to the far west along the shorter and much faster route to Innsbruck. Nowadays all through trains from Vienna to Bregenz take this corridor, as do DB IC and EC trains to Munich. Austrian soil is not regained until Kufstein, we are on the international Brenner route to Italy by then. The Brenner route is being seriously upgraded - quadrupled - to cope with the international freight traffic between Germany and Italy. Much of the new capacity will be in tunnels, so watch all the action while you can. Narrated RT 110mins.
