Welcome to Switzerland. The Gotthard railway (Gotthardbahn) is the main route for passenger trains between Germany and Lombardy, and one of the two freight routes across the Alps in Switzerland. Trains heading for the alpine crossing run alongside the Zuger See, through Schwyz, Brunnen and down to Erstfeld where the mountain section and our story begins. The 30km to the summit station at Göschenen is truly remarkable with signature sights such as the Chärstelenbach-Brücke, the Pfaffensprung and Wassen spirals. The Reuss Gorge to Göschenen follows, providing an idyllic background for the varied selection of trains that ply the line. We look at the history of the line, the building of the base tunnel and its post NEAT future.. Supported with aerial film. Narrated and filmed in High Definition RT 60 mins
