Welcome to Switzerland. This instalment of the Swiss Express series covers the busy but oft forgotten Central Switzerland – the industrial heartland with the Jura to the north and the Alps to the south. We range from Frenkendorf (almost suburban Basel) and Liestal in the north to the base of Lake Luzern in the south, and from east to west: Lenzburg to Langenthal. This area includes the complex of lines used to reach the transalpine crossings- the Gotthard and Lötschberg, and we show how freight and passenger trains are segregated before the alpine crossings start. As this is an industrial area we concentrate on cargo – on SBB CARGO domestic business: Mac Donald’s, the Coop, RIVELLA, NIVEA, the CARGO DOMINO system and on import export business: specialist steels from Austria, and the oil business – plus international wagon-load, RoLa, Intermodals and more. We make a special visit to the metre gauge Aare Seeland at Langenthal to see how modern standard gauge freight vehicles are moved on special bogies for clients like the Coop and MOTOREX. A very special film for those who know there is more to Switzerland the mountains and for those with an interest in modern rail freight. RT 100 mins
