Today we are in Szczecin in northwest Poland and will be travelling with PKP InterCity to Krzyż, and in part 2 (TTR164) onward to Poznań. The main railway station, Szczecin Główny, was opened by the Prussians in 1843 and rebuilt by the communists after the war. The station, that serves a population of over 400,000, is due to be rebuilt again by 2016 – rebuilding was not seen as a priority by PKP as the city played no part in the Euro 2012 football! For technical reasons we start our cab run at Stargard Szczeciński, which is the first stop, about 10km from Szczecin. Our train is TLK83516, haulage is an EP07 with six bogie coaches in tow - the time is 13.25. We have to be candid, the start of the run is not the prettiest in Poland, but it is a busy and mixed traffic route for freight. The obvious movements of materials to Szczecin port are all there – coal, oil, chemicals, but because of the train ferry to Sweden so is mixed wagonload including modern bogie sliding wall vans. PKP don’t have any of their own, they rely on their neighbours or the private hire companies such as Transwaggon. The run concludes at the industrial town of Krzyż half way to Poznań. Filmed in HD.
