MINIWORLD is rather misnamed! The name implies that it is a miniature world – it’s actually a miniature Netherlands - executed in exquisite 1/87 scale detail. The “world” is threaded through with very credIble model railway running (generally) modern image stock, representing the railway you would see if you looked outside the window. While it covers much of the Netherlands, most is dedicated to Rotterdam, the port and surrounding area. Indeed the detail of the port infrastructure and railway is truly amazing; full size containerships and landside equipment. Facilities include: container terminals, chemical works, grain terminals and shunting yards.  All this before the city of Rotterdam with its vast buildings, trams and impressive bridges. For a full perspective we interweave the real world and  MINIWORLD to see just how close modeling can get to perfection. (circa 45 mins) The final section of this film takes us a few miles inland to the country’s main marshaling yard – a fully automated classification yard that handles traffic for the port and further afield. We watch an evening’s activity of hump shunting and trains coming and going on their duties. (circa 15 mins)
