The Arth-Rigi-Bahn and the Vitznau-Rigi-Bahn merged in 1992 into the Rigi Railways. The two lines are operated as standard gauge rack railways and total 15.4 km. The Rigi -aka- the queen of the mountains at almost 1800m asl. It has a wonderful 360 degree panoramic view of several lakes, the plains and the mountains.
There used to be a third run on the Rigi, the Rigi-Scheidegg-Bahn, a narrow-gauge railway, which was shut down in 1931. On the former railway track with tunnel and viaduct, a hiking trail was created.
At the foot of the Rigis you will find Lake Lucerne on one side and Lake Zug on the other side. Along the Lake Zug there are various SBB lines seen on this disc (with extensions from Lucerne and Zurich. ©Andreas Perren 2019
