The Hanseatic city of Bremen. This was the first city in Germany to have an S-Bahn run by the private sector. The tender was won by a Veolia Transport subsidiary NordWestBahn (NWB) The contract was placed in 2008 and is due to run for 11 years.

Conclude our visit to the Eurotrack model rail show in the south of England where we view:
Antwerpen Oostkaai -modern image H0. Bei Welmich- modern image Rhine in N gauge.  La Planche Port-  Côte d’Azur in H0 – 1960 to 1980. Reuddeux - modern image H0 layout nominally set in Dijon. Zuppertal- inspired by the famous Wuppertal overhead railway  in Z gauge.

Travel to Bilbao to look at Spanish railfreight- the former Altos Hornes de Vizcaya, once the largest industrial enterprise in Spain. The business now belongs to Arcelor who produce 1 ½ million tons of high quality coil a year. We also look at the nearby container point served by RENFE Mercancias, and the private sector including COMSA who use modern Vossloh Euro4000s.

FEVE Cargo.  In 2012 the ownership of the narrow-gauge lines to the east of Bilbao was transferred to Euskotren – Basque Railways – while those serving the northern Spanish provinces to the west went  to ADIF and RENFE -including the freight business.
