Today we undertake a round trip of the Öresund – the sound that separates Sweden from Denmark’s largest Island. We are based in Malmö Sweden but actually start in Copenhagen on the other side of the waterway. Our exploration of the Oresund is  based on a tried and tested day trip that nominally starts in Copenhagen - over the Öresund bridge, (nowadays by train though in former years it was by ferry)  through Malmö, up the Swedish coast to Helsingborg – across the strait at its narrowest point by ferry to Helsingör and then back down the Danish island of Sjælland or Zealand to Copenhagen.
We spend time in Malmö, the castle, transport museum, and the boat tour of the city’s canals and see how to use the local trains and buses. Then we move on to lovely Lund and the port town of Landskrona. The journey continues north alongside the sound to Helsingborg, which is Sweden’s second largest port. We explore the city and make a detour to Ängelholm for the railway museum owned by Trafikverket, the Swedish rail and road ministry. Then it’s back to Helsingborg via the Sofiero castle – it has an English connection – for a Scandline ferry to Helsingør (Elsinor) in Denmark. RT50 mins.  Published December 2014
